On the Way to Tsomgo Lake

Tsomgo (Changu) Lake (3,780m) is about 40km east of Gantok and it is regarded as a sacred lake among the locals.

It is a highly restricted area and tourists require a permit to visit the lake. The saying ‘rules are made to be broken’ does not apply here – no permit, no entry.

Smooth journey amidst lush scenery,
but it did not last for long…

…traffic jam started to build up – police check post ahead!

Only 29km to Tsomgo , but it took us
more than two hours to reach the destination
– due to the condition of the road.

Scenery along the way

Entering a restricted area – no permit, no entry

Poor condition of the road (more to come)…

…and steep & winding road

More traffic jam

Army camp area

More steep and winding road ahead…

And more traffic jam

Mist started to set in as we ascended

Mist and jam – order of the day journey!
