Gantok – Lachung

Our next stop is Lachung (2,400m) in northern Sikkim, about 125km north of Gantok.

Northern Sikkim had been a tightly controlled area in the past, but there has been some relaxation in recent years. Tourists are now allowed to travel all the way to Yumthang, about 18km north of Lachung – with a permit of course.

It was a long journey of many hours and it rained intermittently, and by the time we reached this small little town, it was 6:20pm. The power supply went off soon after we arrived because the town is in short supply of electricity and power tripping is quite a common thing, we were told. Fortunately it was restored soon after. The temperature when we arrived was 8 deg Celsius.

A new day, a new start and a new journey
to somewhere new and exciting.
