Prayers Flags

Prayers flags play an important role in the Himalayan regions such as Tibet, Nepal, Sikkim and Bhutan. Traditionally the prayer flags come in sets of five colours each representing the five different elements: blue – sky / space, white – air / wind, red – fire, green – water, yellow – earth.

The flags are believed to have originated with Bon, which predated Buddhism in Tibet.

It is believed that the flags would be blown by wind to spread the good will and compassion into all pervading space.
